
ECO PLACES
BALI BARAT NATIONAL PARK
Mt. Batur, Bangli regency
Almost the whole of the western trip of Bali (covering 750 sg.km),
has been deemed a conservation area.
Included within the park's
boundaries are open savannahs, rainforests, mangrove swamps, coral
reefs and Pulau Menjangan (Deer Island).
The park is a haven for
a wide range of animals or birds, especially the endangered BALI
STARLING. There are a number of trails open to visitors.
PULAU MENJANGAN
Home to the rare JAVA DEER, also has great diving
and snorkelling. To enter the park, you must be accompanied by an
official guide and you must possess a park permit, obtainable at the
National Park Headquarters in Cekik, 3 km south of Gilimanuk.
BOTANICAL GARDENS
Kebun Raya Eka Karya, Bedugul, Central Bali.
These gardens cover over 120 hectares on Gunung Pohon (Tree Mountain).
The gardens contain a huge collection of trees, nearly 500 varieties
of orchid and are rich in birdlife.
SANGEH & UBUD MONKEY FOREST
near the villages of Sangeh & Ubud, South West Bali
The main attractions are the hordes of Balinese monkeys that inhabit
the trees and the temples. Visitors should be aware that these monkeys
are attracted to shiny objects, so cameras and jewellery should be left
behind, well hidden, or stored in a bag, before setting off to explore.
BLAHMANTUNG WATERFALL
near Pupuan, West Bali
Dropping over 100 metres, this waterfall is spectacular, especially
during the rainy season (November-March). Be prepareds for a tough
trek up steep and at times, rough, track to get there.
GITGIT WATERFALL
10 km South Singaraja, North Bali
Not far from the main road. Gitgit is an impressive 40 metres high.
A swim here can be very refreshing, although local legend believes
that couples bathing here together will eventually separate.
