ECO PLACES

BALI BARAT NATIONAL PARK
Mt. Batur, Bangli regency

Almost the whole of the western trip of Bali (covering 750 sg.km), has been deemed a conservation area.

Included within the park's boundaries are open savannahs, rainforests, mangrove swamps, coral reefs and Pulau Menjangan (Deer Island).

The park is a haven for a wide range of animals or birds, especially the endangered BALI STARLING. There are a number of trails open to visitors.

PULAU MENJANGAN

Home to the rare JAVA DEER, also has great diving and snorkelling. To enter the park, you must be accompanied by an official guide and you must possess a park permit, obtainable at the National Park Headquarters in Cekik, 3 km south of Gilimanuk.

BOTANICAL GARDENS
Kebun Raya Eka Karya, Bedugul, Central Bali.

These gardens cover over 120 hectares on Gunung Pohon (Tree Mountain). The gardens contain a huge collection of trees, nearly 500 varieties of orchid and are rich in birdlife.

SANGEH & UBUD MONKEY FOREST
near the villages of Sangeh & Ubud, South West Bali

The main attractions are the hordes of Balinese monkeys that inhabit the trees and the temples. Visitors should be aware that these monkeys are attracted to shiny objects, so cameras and jewellery should be left behind, well hidden, or stored in a bag, before setting off to explore.

BLAHMANTUNG WATERFALL
near Pupuan, West Bali

Dropping over 100 metres, this waterfall is spectacular, especially during the rainy season (November-March). Be prepareds for a tough trek up steep and at times, rough, track to get there.

GITGIT WATERFALL
10 km South Singaraja, North Bali

Not far from the main road. Gitgit is an impressive 40 metres high. A swim here can be very refreshing, although local legend believes that couples bathing here together will eventually separate.
