CARVINGS

SLIDE SHOW
(loading may take a while, but it's worth it !)

There are two main types of carving art in Bali : stone carving and wood carving.

Although there are these main ones, Balinese carve almost everything !

For them, this particular art, like most forms of art in Bali, is inseparable from their daily religious lives.

Before, this art was done only for temples, palaces, or other holy places. Not until recently, the art has evolved into a more commercial one.

Stone carvings that exist in Bali today centered around Batubulan, a small city South of Bali, only around 45 minutes drive from Kuta area.

Mas, on the other hand, is the center for wood carvings where the art continues to develop and expand.

Today’s Balinese carvers not only carve demons or gods images, but also common animals and everyday objects like trees, children, or houses.
