HISTORY

History for most Balinese is a set of stories mostly told mouth-to-mouth (sometimes also written) from one generation to the next.

In addition, those stories were and still are re-told or re-written whenever they feel necessary. Therefore, it becomes difficult sometimes to find real evidences or proofs of Balinese history, especially on what happened before the 19th century.

Not too many are known about Balinese prehistoric era, although it is said that three thousand years ago (around 2500 BC) the first settlers were arriving in Bali.

There are several prehistoric artifacts can be found in Balinese museums today, but the picture of that particular historical period of Bali is still not a clear one.
